Gavin Austin

Gavin Austin will make his first appearance in the Morrinsville Spectacular this year, but it is not the first time that his name has appeared in the programme. He first started out with the Spectacular in the late 1980's when as a college student, he set up and operated the stage lighting and has performed this role several times since. Two years ago he took a step up the production ladder and was the Stage Manager for that year’s show.

While happy to listen to country music growing up, especially the likes of Kenny Rogers, it wasn’t until Gavin spent a year in the United States in the 1990’s that he began to fully appreciate the “modern” sound of country music.

Gavin is part of the local band “Flash Bax”, which mostly covers hits from the 50's through 70's and a bit of everything else. In the band he plays guitar, drums, saxophone and has dabbled with the kazoo - not all at the same time thankfully. “Flash Bax” provides a great opportunity for all band members to improve their musical skills and knowledge as well as having a bit of fun along the way.
